The fact that the Rumaila and Shatt Basra combine cycle power plants are running by steam from exhaust gases resulting from the gas turbines of the simple cycle, which requires the supplying of the two plants with the necessary water, under the approval was obtained from the Ministry of Water Resources to supply the combined cycle projects at the Rumaila and Shatt Basra with (10,000)m3/h where the proportion of each station for the combines cycle will be (5000) m3, as per the signed contract No. (16209) with MOE On 14 November 2016,. All necessary approvals for the water intake pipeline route have been obtained to the Rumaila plant at a total length (51 km).

A specialized company has been contracted to conduct topographical survey work for the water intake as well as the path of the pipeline and the final report has been issued and approved by the design institute (SEPECCO) side and contracted with a specialized company to conduct the work of soil inspections (Geotechnics & Soil investigation) and hydrological investigation of the Al-Haffar river in Basra, on which the site of the water intake station is located, and accordingly the basic design and detailed designs of the water intake plant and the pipeline station were issued with the necessary crossings of the pipeline and began to start commencement On January 1, 2020, the completion period of the plant is 12 months, and the number of international foreign and local manpower (administrative and technical) in the project has reached 300 people per day to complete civil works , construction, supervision and operation of the station.
